Dealing with negative feelings is a prime requirement of any recovery program. Although 12-Step/Recovery group support is generally superb, Emotional Clearing practice can be extremely useful to 12-Step/Recovery participants in connection with the program. We view all addictions, including alcohol or drugs, as a means to manage negative feelings.

There's an emotional component behind any addiction. The addiction is the attempt to deal with the painful, suppressed feelings. As the feelings are approached and worked with directly, the psychological compulsion for mood altering through substance abuse diminishes naturally, and 12 Step/Recovery work proceeds much easier. EC also has an integral place for reliance on ultimate healing through a Higher Power, an important component of 12 Step/Recovery work.
