Hypnotherapists possess skills to bring the client into a relaxed alpha state, the same place where EC emotional process work is done. Often, however, hypnotherapy does not take full advantage of this state evoked in the client, but is confined to "reconditioning." EC presents a model for working with the suppressed feelings that underlie the undesirable habits that are usually addressed with reconditioning modalities. As these deeper feelings are cleared, the habits used to keep the feelings suppressed are no longer required, e.g., smoking, overeating. After feelings are released, behavior changes spontaneously, with no need for reconditioning. Combined with emotional release, behavioral reconditioning can be ultimately more successful and much less difficult to effect.
